Clarity of Purpose

We believe that furniture should have clarity of purpose. This belief informs all of our work as we continue to explore and foster behavioural-led public spaces. Furniture manufacturers often stick to their traditional ways, missing vital alternatives routes that challenge the industry’s status quo. +Halle is a brand that represents a new brave generation of manufacturers. Instead of producing furniture that passively exists, we believe that furniture can be a meaningful agent for positive change.

Philosophy

Today’s public environments need to be agile and able to match a physical and mental metabolism of the day, in order to stay relevant. At +Halle, we are convinced that future of furniture lies in spaces that adapt to the behaviour of the people who use them, meaning that the design needs to achieve a synthesis of context, function and performance.

We are motivated by the transformation in the use of public space: how people relate to large shifts in work, mobility, technology and privacy. Driven by understanding how spatial cultures evolve, we are interested in the complex, diverse interplay between human behaviour, design and architecture.

It is time to think beyond the generic domestic influence on our public spaces, instead, we really should look at the actual needs and let purpose inform our environments.

Our Method

+Halle work is founded on anthropological and contextual research of the public realm—allowing to build real themes, which they explore together with multidisciplinary groups of architects, designers, artists and writers. We call this the Annual Briefing.

Set to address a given spatial purpose, the Annual Briefing introduces a collective mind that has the opportunity to challenge the traditional object-driven industry. By bringing together creative teams, we have opened up a platform for interventions of new behaviours.

The next big shift is the diversity of spaces. For the first three briefings, we will investigate three specific behaviours: a social sharing space, a focused productive setting and a contemplating dwelling realm. Follow our journey from briefing to the final product and get involved in the discussion around how we improve the use of our public space today.

Our best-kept secret is our innovation model, where we sustain a dependable rhythm for quality and new ideas. This means that even when we are busy executing—meeting deadlines, delivering quality and perfecting our craft—it is still possible to find time and resources for new, speculative and improved ways to furnish the future of our environments.
